This is mine:
Here is what you need:
- Scrabble Tiles
- Picture Frame, if you can get one with a little space between the glass and the picture that would be best but it can be done with a normal picture frame too. I used a normal frame. A shadow box will work well if you want space.
- If your picture frame doesn't come with matting you will have to get some. ( I got mine at wal mart for $1)
- Modge Podge
- Small paint brush or Q-tip to apply modge podge.
- And of course the picture you want in the frame.
First thing I did was looked on ebay for the scrabble tiles. You really have to search for a good deal. Most were $20-$30 for a ton of tiles, you really don't need many. I finally found a set for $3 on ebay and was in a bidding war for them. I ended up paying $7 for a set. Not that bad. while awaiting their arrival in the mail I went and got the rest of what I needed.
I found the Frame at Hobby Lobby and absolutely fell in love with the style and color. It has no room between the glass and picture so it was difficult to close but no one sees the bulge in the back so I think it is ok. Might be hard to hang on the wall though, not sure I have not tried that. If you want one with room between the glass and picture it would be something like a shadow box. You want to make sure to get a picture frame that is bigger than the picture unless you want the picture cropped by the matting. I got a 5x7 picture frame for a 4x6 picture.
The matting should be at a craft store but the one I went to did not have it so I checked wal mart and they had them for cheap. It says on the front what size they are. My picture was a 4x6 and the frame a 5x7 so i needed a 5x7 to fit a 4x6. Again super cheap!
- First put the picture in with the matting and make sure it is what you like. Tape the picture down so it stays exactly how you want it. I also put the date on the back (personal preference).
- Now tape a tile on to the matting and fit it into the frame just to make sure it will close. It may be hard but as long as it seals it doesn't really matter what the back looks like unless you plan to hang it. (You can see mine, after everything, has a bulky look on back).
- If everything looks good place the tiles on the matting to spell what you want. Make sure everything fits and is pretty evenly spread out.
- Now put modge podge on the back of the tile and glue onto the matting. once all on wait about 30 minutes to make sure it is dry.
- Now place the matting in the frame with the picture and seal it.
- Voila, you now have a crafty scrabble picture frame!
